Introduction to the 19th Hostel E Residents' Association, ELAND

「ELAND」為嶺南大學2015-2016年度賽馬會E座宿舍第十九屆宿生會幹事會

“ELAND”, the 19th Lingnan University Jockey Club Hostel E’s Hostel’s Residents Association.

​

「ELAND」一詞並非單只是指大羚羊，而是當中每一個字母亦有其各自代表的獨特意義。

Besides the meaning of the word “ELAND” is carrying, each letter in it also symbolizes a meaning.

 

E-
Evergreen-博騫堂以綠色、環保為髓，並一直致力推行綠色生活。而我們名稱——ELAND中的E，意指長春樹(Evergreen)。傳說長春樹四季開花，一則代表了盎然蓬勃的生機；二則代表了綠色生活、環保文化可以薪火相傳。承先啟後，生生不息，希望不論我們和諸位都能秉承博騫傳統，生於自然、活於自然。 
Hall E aims to promote the idea of environmentally-friendly. The E in our name - ELAND stands for Evergreen. As a myth says the Evergreen will bloom all season  long, which represents life and opportunities. On the other hand, it represents green life and the culture of environmentally friendly that can be passed on. From the above, we hope we can inherit this tradition, to born and live in nature.

L–
Love-天下為公，世界大同。每年都會有來自五湖四海，形形色色的宿生加入博騫堂。而我們名稱——ELAND中的L，意指博愛(Love)。諸位進入新環境，與其他宿生、室友相處殊不容易。無論諸位國籍、身份和性別，庄員都希望更加了解每位。透過溝通而加深了解，從而避免衝突。庄員亦會將自己的電話號碼和房號寫在升降機展板上，期待諸位來電。無論事情輕重，庄員都會盡心解答。
Every year we have different kinds of hallmates getting in Hall E. The L in our name stands for Love. When students get into a new environment, it is hard for them to get used to it. We are willing to know more about the students regardless of their nationality, identity and gender. Through communication and understanding realizing each other, we could avoid conflicts. We will put down our phone numbers and room numbers on the lift board and we welcome all of you to contact us. We are willing to answer your calls no matter what kind of things it is.

A–
Allo-人是一種群居動物。所謂獨木難支，我們都需要建立自己的社交圈子。而我們名稱——ELAND中的A，意指緊密相連 (Allo)。希望透過一連串的活動，提供機會予諸位聚首一堂，互相認識。濟濟一堂，擴闊諸位宿生的社交圈子，接觸不同宿生，豐富大學生活。 
Human lives as a community. We all need the support of one another and build our own social circle. The letter A of our name- ELAND means closely associated (Allo). Through these activities, we hope we can provide opportunities for our hallmates to gather and know one another. By gatherings, we wish to broaden residents’ social circles, keep in touch with hallmates and have a fruitful university life.

N–
Neighborhood-同為北宿鄰舍，博騫堂一直與驥德堂緊密維繫。而我們名稱——ELAND中的N，意指鄰里情誼 (Neighborhood)。所謂遠親不如近鄰，希望可以與友宿常溝通，多走動。例如與驥德堂聯合舉辦北宿同樂日以及聯宿鬼屋。與此同時，亦希望能夠協助兩宿宿生認識彼此，形成良好北宿氛圍。 
Hall E has always been keeping a good relationship with Hall F. The letter N in our name stands for Neighborhood. We hope to communicate with buddies of Hall F and get together. For instance, we will continue to hold “Hostels United Day” and Inter-hall Halloween function. At the same time, we wish to help our hallmates to maintain closer relationship with Hall F, in a bid to build up a harmonious atmosphere in the Northern Hostel.

D–
Dynamic-博騫堂一直以動靜皆宜聞名。而我們名稱——ELAND中的D，意指充滿活力 (Dynamic)。新一年中希望諸位博騫宿生能夠依舊充滿活力，蹈厲奮發，在不同領域都能盡展所長。不論在學業抑或課餘活動中都全踴躍參與，使博騫精神繼續聞名於山嶺之南。 
Being both extroverted and introverted have always been Hall E’s impression to others. And the D in ELAND stands for Dynamic. This year, we hope to show our schoolmates an energetic Hall E and show all their talents in different aspects. No matter in academics or extracurricular activities, we hope we can spread and pass down the spirit of Hall E.



本宿生會幹事會一號候選內閣取名ELAND，意為大羚羊。大羚羊是一種勇氣而自豪、冷靜而堅毅的動物。大羚羊身為勇氣與堅毅的象徵，正正與博騫堂動靜皆宜之特質不謀而合。另外，ELAND亦有「E-LAND」之意，代表是博騫宿生之地方。候選內閣希望以此凝聚宿生，提升宿生對博騫堂之歸屬感。在此，本候選內閣希望不斷了解諸位宿生之需要，致力與大家締造難忘回憶，更可共建美好博騫！

The reason why we, the number one proposed Cabinet of the Residents’ Association  , named ELAND,is because Eland is a kind of antelope, which symbolises bravery and strong, and it goes the same way with Hall E’s quiet and active such qualities. Besides, ELAND also means “E-LAND”, which represents where we live. Our cabinet wishes to gather hallmates and raise their sense of belongings to Hall E. From this, we hope we can solve the problems of the residents and to create an unforgettable memory as well as a better living environment in Hall E!

在未來一年，我們將會承接Hall E舍堂的精神，盡力為宿生帶來最好服務，讓宿生能夠在舍堂中培養綠色及正面生活態度。我們會在未來一年，舉辦不同類型的活動，讓每一位宿生都能夠在舍堂中透過參與「ELAND」的精彩活動，感受到快樂及歡笑，為各位在嶺南大學的校園生活添上無窮色彩，增加對Hall E的歸屬感。我們希望一方面能夠協助新生融入宿舍生活，一方面讓舊生也能享受舍堂氣氛。

In the coming year, ELAND will organize different activities to let the E-mates experience the joyful moments and happiness. Through the activities, we hope to provide a fruitful life, and strengthen the sense of belonging of E-mates. Furthermore, apart from helping the freshmen to adapt the hostel life, we also wish to provide a enjoyable hostel atmosphere to the senior students.
